
12% rise in active private enterprises in Oman
The number of active private enterprises in the Sultanate of Oman rose by 12.1% in the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, reaching nearly 283,000 enterprises.
According to data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), micro-enterprises recorded the highest growth rate, rising by 14.3% to 251,000 compared to the second quarter of 2024.
The number of medium-sized enterprises saw a slight increase of 0.1%, while large enterprises rose by 1.6%. Small enterprises declined by 3.1%, reaching 29,000.
The total value added by all private enterprises decreased by 0.8%, amounting to OMR 8.147 billion.
Micro-enterprises contributed the largest share to GDP, up by 3.8% to OMR 817 million. The value added by small enterprises rose by 3.6% to OMR 673 million, while medium-sized enterprises recorded a 1.2% increase to OMR 626 million. Large enterprises saw a 2% decline in value added, totalling OMR 6.031 billion.
The total number of employees in private enterprises reached about 1,802,972 in Q2 2025, marking a rise of 1.2% compared to Q2 2024
Employment in micro-enterprises grew by 3.9%, reaching nearly 697,000 workers. Medium-sized enterprises saw a 1.2% increase to nearly 153,000 employees , while large enterprises recorded a 1.7% rise to nearly 434,000 employees.
The number of employees in small enterprises fell by 2.6%, to nearly 520,000.
