Minister at reception marking refurbishment of Oman Corridor at the UN

Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi sponsored a reception hosted by Ambassador Omar Said Omar Alkathiri, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations in New York, marking the refurbishment of the Oman Corridor at the UN headquarters, inaugurated in 1986.

The opening was attended by Amina Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General, and Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the General Assembly, along with senior international figures, representatives of member states, and diplomats.

The newly refurbished Oman Corridor at the United Nations, reflects Oman’s message as a nation that is a friend to all, with a diplomacy built on dialogue and cooperation.

The cultural space showcases a collection of Omani artefacts symbolising values of peace, sustainability and openness. Among them are the silver Omani khanjar, included on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, along with traditional jewellery with a modern recycled twist and frankincense burners made from repurposed building materials.

The story of the Aflaj, or irrigation system, is also featured and reflects the spirit of cooperation vital to Oman's diplomacy, as does a lashed plank illustrating the skilled craftsmanship involved in the art of shipbuilding, and highlighting Oman’s historic role in connecting continents and peoples.

The Minister affirmed that this cultural space reflects Oman’s vision of promoting the values of peace and coexistence. He noted that it highlights Oman’s contributions to supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Oman's heritage of upcycling everyday objects reveals a deep respect for resources and an ability to balance practicality with artistry.

The UN Deputy Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly expressed their appreciation for this initiative, affirming that it will be a valuable addition for visitors to the United Nations and a space that inspires the principles of partnership and mutual respect.
