Minister at special UNRWA ministerial meeting
Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi participated in a special ministerial meeting on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
The meeting was co-hosted by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Spain and the Federative Republic of Brazil, and attended by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, alongside the proceedings of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting addressed the unprecedented challenges facing UNRWA in its 76th year, including Israel’s ongoing attempts to obstruct its operations, the large-scale destruction of its facilities in the Gaza Strip, and the killing of hundreds of its staff members, all of which have significantly worsened the humanitarian crisis in the territory.
Participants reaffirmed that UNRWA remains a vital provider of essential services to millions of Palestinian refugees. They underscored the urgent need to renew both political and financial support for the agency, shield it from collapse, and ensure the continuity of its services in education, healthcare and relief. They also highlighted the importance of strengthening the agency’s financial sustainability without imposing further burdens on host countries.
The meeting expressed a collective international commitment to safeguarding the rights of Palestinian refugees, upholding international law and supporting efforts towards a just and lasting peace that guarantees security and stability for all in the region.
