Sayyid Badr delivered a statement marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. He described the occasion as a moment to reflect on the commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, which centre on maintaining peace, advancing justice, and achieving economic and social development.

He noted that the world is facing overlapping crises including climate disasters, conflicts, wars, and geopolitical rivalries, alongside the suffering of many peoples who continue to endure poverty, disease, and shortages of medicine, food, and safe drinking water.

On the Palestinian issue, Sayyid Badr underlined that the Palestinian people continue to endure some of the gravest forms of human suffering, reflecting the starkest denial of their basic rights. He referred to the daily toll of civilian victims and the deliberate destruction and acts of genocide carried out by Israeli occupation forces. He added that the failure of the international system to confront these tragedies represents not only a political failure but also a devastating failure of the global human conscience.

He stated firmly that there can be no peace without justice, and no sustainable development without peace. He pointed out that recent Israeli assaults, including the attack on the State of Qatar, prove that tolerating aggression in one place threatens stability and justice worldwide. He reaffirmed Oman’s position calling for reform of the United Nations system to make it more representative, accountable, and effective in protecting peace and enabling development. He also urged the G20 to support the UN’s role in complementing rather than replacing global responsibilities, stressing that economic growth cannot be sustainable without justice and peace.

Sayyid Badr concluded by reaffirming Oman’s call for a renewed international commitment to the two-state solution based on international law, and decisive action to end the occupation and protect civilians, as the only path to securing just peace and sustainable development for peoples.
