Bilateral relations
The United States of America and the Sultanate of Oman established their official relations in 1833 when the Sultan of Oman, Said bin Sultan, and the U.S. trade representative signed the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce between the two countries.
In 1840, the Sultan’s envoy, Ahmad bin Naaman, sailed to New York aboard the ship Sultana, marking the beginning of diplomatic relations with the United States of America.
