Press conference concludes political talks between Oman and Bulgaria
Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, and Georg Georgiev, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, held a joint press conference following the session of political talks at the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sofia.
During the press conference, the Bulgarian Foreign Minister expressed his country’s deep appreciation for Oman’s humanitarian and diplomatic role in facilitating the release of several Bulgarian citizens detained as part of the crew of the Galaxy Leader ship in Yemen. He commended Oman’s full support in ensuring their safe repatriation, and reaffirmed Bulgaria’s gratitude for Oman’s ongoing efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
The two Ministers emphasised the strength of relations between Oman and Bulgaria, founded on mutual respect and a shared desire to enhance cooperation. These relations will translate into regular political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries, with the participation of relevant authorities, to explore partnerships in economy, energy, renewable energy, education, research, culture, transport, logistics, health, technology, artificial intelligence, and tourism—along with the potential for launching direct flights between Muscat and Sofia.
The Ministers highlighted the importance of establishing permanent Embassies in their respective capitals, Muscat and Sofia, to expand cooperation, facilitate communication between the two friendly nations, and stimulate joint investment initiatives.
On economic matters, the Ministers noted that the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the energy sector would open promising avenues for cooperation in oil, gas, and related supply chains, as well as the development of joint projects in alternative energy, particularly wind, solar, and green hydrogen.
Internationally, the Ministers stressed the importance of sustained coordination and consultation on issues of mutual concern to support global peace and security and uphold international justice. They emphasised that sustainable solutions to conflicts require dialogue and diplomacy rather than the imposition of force or zero-sum approaches, which regional experiences have proven ineffective in achieving stability.
