Oman speaks at International Conference on Palestine
The Sultanate of Oman participated in the high level International Conference on the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Cause and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
In a speech delivered by Sheikh Abdulaziz Alhinai, Ambassador at large at the Foreign Ministry, Oman expressed its appreciation for the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the French Republic and for their leadership of this initiative.
Oman also welcomed the historic announcement by President Emmanuel Macron of the French Republic and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom regarding their intention to recognise the State of Palestine.
Oman renewed its call for all other countries that have not yet done so to immediately take the same step.
Ambassador Alhinai said that the two-state solution remains the only just path to achieving peace in the region. He noted, however, that merely speaking about the two-state solution is no longer sufficient, especially in light of the extremist policies pursued by the Israeli government. He said there must therefore be a practical and implementable plan backed by genuine political will, in order to move beyond rhetoric and revive peace negotiations within a credible international framework.
