The Sultanate of Oman has called for identifying responsibilities and strengthening accountability regarding illegal activities supporting settlements in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.<\/p>\n
Oman’s statement was made during the general debate under Item 7 of the 63rd session of the UN \u00a0Human Rights Council<\/a> concerning the situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories. The statement was delivered by Ambassador Idris Alkhanjari, Oman\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organisations in Geneva,<\/a><\/p>\n Oman said it continues to follow with regret the ongoing humanitarian suffering in the Gaza Strip, as well as the destruction, displacement and growing humanitarian needs resulting from the war. These require an urgent and sustained international response, it added.<\/p>\n Oman also noted the escalation of settlement activity, incursions, settler violence, land confiscation and displacement in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.<\/p>\n Oman condemned the continued occupation of the Syrian Golan and recent Israeli incursions and attacks in Syria, highlighting the need to respect Syria\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity and uphold international law and the United Nations Charter.<\/p>\n Oman said the scale of the violations and challenges facing the Palestinian people requires an international response that goes beyond condemnation to practical and effective measures to ensure accountability.
