Oman is participating in the 52nd session of the Arab Labour Conference, hosted by the Arab Republic of Egypt until September 20.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s Conference is being held under the theme \u201cSustainable Economic Growth: Towards Inclusive and Equitable Social Development in Arab Countries.\u201d Organised by the Arab Labour Organisation, the conference discusses key issues relating to the future of work and development in the Arab region. These include sustainable economic growth and inclusive and equitable social development, as well as climate change and its impact on the working environment, ways to strengthen occupational safety and health and the ability to adapt to climate related risks.<\/p>\n
The Conference is also addressing startups and the opportunities available to them amid digital transformation, as well as their role in supporting entrepreneurship, creating new jobs and increasing productivity. It is also discussing skills development and alignment with labour market needs, with the aim of supporting labour policies capable of keeping pace with economic, technological and social change.<\/p>\n
The Conference is reviewing ways to strengthen Arab cooperation in labour and employment and to exchange expertise and successful experiences among Arab countries. It is also discussing issues relating to the implementation of Arab labour conventions and recommendations and follows up on resolutions adopted at the previous conference. In addition, it considers the Arab Labour Organization\u2019s plan and budget for the coming period.<\/p>\n
Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry<\/a>, said Oman\u2019s participation in the Arab Labour Conference comes at a time of rapid change in labour markets. He said these developments require labour policies to evolve and the private sector to play a greater role in supporting sustainable growth and creating high quality jobs.<\/p>\n He added that the next phase requires a focus on developing skills and aligning them with labour market needs, increasing the competitiveness of enterprises and making the most of opportunities arising from digital transformation and the green economy. He also highlighted the importance of supporting startups and strengthening their ability to innovate and grow.<\/p>\n Al Rawas also noted the importance of continued cooperation and the exchange of expertise among Arab countries. This would help improve the working environment and strengthen the ability of Arab economies to keep pace with change and achieve sustainable development, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040<\/a>.<\/p>\n
