The Sultanate of Oman and Japan underlined the importance of reaching a final agreement and a political solution to reduce tensions in the region.<\/p>\n

They also called for intensified international efforts to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with international law and to maintain the smooth flow of maritime transport and energy supplies.<\/p>\n

This was stated during a joint press conference held at the Foreign Ministry by Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi<\/a> and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi.<\/a><\/p>\n

Sayyid Badr said relations between Oman and Japan are built on solid foundations of mutual respect, trust and a shared commitment to peace and stability.<\/p>\n

He noted that next year will mark the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, providing an opportunity to set a more ambitious course for the future of the Oman Japan partnership.<\/p>\n

Oman’s Foreign Minister said economic relations are an important pillar of the partnership between the two countries. He welcomed the growing interest and participation of Japanese companies in Oman, particularly in energy, renewable and low carbon technologies, logistics and infrastructure.<\/p>\n

He expressed his hope for stronger Oman Japan cooperation in sectors including space, green manufacturing and advanced technology.<\/p>\n

Sayyid Badr said Oman looks forward to a positive outcome from negotiations on a free trade agreement between Japan and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. He said an agreement would bring mutual benefits, helping to \u00a0boost trade, and enhance investment and supply chain security.<\/p>\n

He also noted significant growth in tourism and cultural exchanges between Oman and Japan in recent years through events organised by the two countries\u2019 embassies and participation in Expo 2025 Osaka<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sayyid Badr said he exchanged views with the Japanese Foreign Minister on regional developments, particularly those concerning the Strait of Hormuz. He said safe passage through the Strait is closely linked to the region\u2019s security and prosperity, as it is one of the world\u2019s most important shipping routes. Many countries and economies outside the region depend on energy and essential goods transported through it.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed Oman\u2019s commitment to maritime security and international law and its rejection of further escalation or conflict. He said lasting security in the Strait of Hormuz requires a lasting peace in the region secured through restraint, diplomacy and sustained engagement to address the underlying causes of instability, including policies of exclusion and failure to uphold international law.<\/p>\n

Sayyid Badr said Oman remains determined to work with Japan and all international partners to support dialogue, justice and peaceful solutions. He noted that partnerships based on trust, pragmatism and diplomacy are increasingly important amid uncertainty in the region and around the world.<\/p>\n

He thanked his Japanese counterpart for the constructive discussions and expressed his hope for continued close cooperation between the two countries and for opening up new horizons in Oman Japan relations.<\/p>\n

For his part, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi expressed his appreciation for Oman\u2019s support for Japan in promoting international peace and security. He also expressed Japan\u2019s commitment to further deepening exchanges and cooperation in this area.<\/p>\n

The Minister said Japan is currently preparing a comprehensive cooperation plan to strengthen economic resilience and energy security in light of the current situation in the Middle East. He noted that Oman is seeking to implement projects in water desalination and green steel production and said Japan hopes to play an active role in these areas.<\/p>\n

Mr Motegi said the situation concerning Iran is at a highly critical stage and expressed his hope for frank discussions aimed at easing tensions as soon as possible. He also called for closer coordination with Oman to ensure freedom and security of navigation through the Straits of Hormuz and Bab Al Mandab.<\/p>\n

Mr Motegi said Japan and Oman, as comprehensive partners, have strengthened cooperation across a wide range of areas in recent years, extending beyond the energy sector.<\/p>\n

He said his meeting with \u00a0Sayyid Badr covered several areas, including energy, defence, education and tourism. The constructive discussions reaffirmed both countries\u2019 commitment to further strengthening cooperation.<\/p>\n

The Japanese Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for Oman\u2019s stable, long term supplies of crude oil and liquefied natural gas. He also affirmed the two countries\u2019 intention to strengthen cooperation in clean energy, including the development of hydrogen and ammonia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
