{"id":47885,"date":"2026-06-11T10:33:21","date_gmt":"2026-06-11T10:33:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fm.gov.om\/47885\/"},"modified":"2026-06-11T13:05:28","modified_gmt":"2026-06-11T13:05:28","slug":"%d8%b3%d9%84%d8%b7%d9%86%d8%a9-%d8%b9%d9%8f%d9%85%d8%a7%d9%86-%d8%aa%d8%a4%d9%83%d8%af-%d8%a3%d9%85%d8%a7%d9%85-%d9%85%d8%ac%d9%84%d8%b3-%d8%a7%d9%84%d8%a3%d9%85%d9%86-%d8%a3%d9%86-%d9%85%d8%b9%d8%a7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fm.gov.om\/en\/47885\/","title":{"rendered":"Oman addresses UN Security Council debate on mediation and dialogue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sultanate of Oman has affirmed that achieving lasting security and stability in the Middle East depends on addressing the root causes of conflicts and the issues underlying them.<\/p>\n<p>During an open debate of the United Nations Security Council, \u00a0Oman said that political solutions remain the most effective path towards establishing peace and creating opportunities for development and stability for the peoples of the region.<\/p>\n<p>These points were made in a statement delivered by Khalid Al Rabkhi, Deputy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fm.gov.om\/en\/missions\/om-us-new-york-pm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations<\/a>, during the open debate of the Security Council on \u201cPromoting Political Solutions in the Middle East: Mediation and Dialogue for Lasting Peace\u201d, chaired by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.presidencia.gov.co\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">President Gustavo Petro Urrego, President of the Republic of Colombia.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oman&#8217;s representative noted that the region\u2019s experiences have demonstrated that crises left unresolved at their roots have re-emerged in different forms, while conflicts lacking just settlements have continued to affect regional security and stability. He said that the value of political solutions lies in their ability to address fundamental issues and create the conditions necessary for lasting peace.<\/p>\n<p>He said that building trust among parties, respecting the sovereignty of states, adhering to international law and providing space for dialogue and understanding are essential pillars for successful mediation and the peaceful settlement of disputes.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy Permanent Representative pointed out that the Palestinian issue remains the most prominent and enduring factor affecting security and stability in the Middle East. He said that the Palestinian people are still waiting to see the principles endorsed by the international community translated into tangible realities that guarantee their legitimate rights.<\/p>\n<p>He added that recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories during have highlighted the immense humanitarian and political costs resulting from the absence of a political horizon. He reiterated Oman\u2019s position that achieving a just and lasting peace requires ending the occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self determination and establish their independent state on the borders of \u00a0June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with legitimate international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the Middle East needs to foster a collective conviction that peace is a strategic choice and that addressing the causes of conflicts is an investment in the security of peoples, the stability of states and the future of coming generations.
