In affirmation of its steadfast commitment to protect human rights and safeguard human dignity, the Sultanate of Oman has launched a national campaign titled \u201cAman\u201d, (“Safety” in English). The launch was also held to mark the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, which falls on 30 July each year.<\/p>\n

The three-month national awareness campaign, was launched by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking (NCCHT)<\/a>, in line with Oman Vision 2040<\/a>, which focuses on consolidating the values of justice and fairness, upgrading the system of social protection and fostering the rule of law.<\/p>\n

The Campaign aims to raise public awareness of the dangers of the crime of human trafficking, to promote a culture of prevention, to support and empower victims, and to strengthen institutional cooperation both locally and internationally in confronting this crime.<\/p>\n

The launch ceremony was held under the auspices of Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, <\/a> Foreign Ministry<\/a> Undersecretary for Political Affairs<\/a>\u00a0 and Chair of the NCCHT.<\/p>\n

In a speech at the launch event, Dr Ahmed Aljabri, Assistant Attorney General \u00a0and Deputy Chairman of the NCCHT, said that the launch of the \u201cAman\u201d Campaign marks an important step in a comprehensive national effort. He noted that this is not only a media campaign, but also a clear expression of Oman’s strong stance against the crime of human trafficking and a practical reflection of the integrated roles played by security, judicial, legislative and humanitarian institutions.<\/p>\n

He explained that the name adopted for the campaign represents a sincere call to every conscience and reflects Oman\u2019s unwavering commitment to protecting human beings and their rights, in line with national legislation and international standards.<\/p>\n

He added that this year marked a pivotal stage in the fight against the crime of human trafficking, with a notable increase in investigations and judicial procedures, along with the transparent announcement of dozens of arrests and rulings. He affirmed that Oman is on the verge of issuing a new law that keeps pace with developments and reflects the evolution of the legal framework to combat human trafficking.<\/p>\n

Major Khalid bin Ali Tabouk, Assistant Director of the Department for Combating Human Trafficking Crimes at the Royal Oman Police, presented a working paper outlining the relevant legislation, the framework of the NCCHT, and the role of the Royal Oman Police in the early detection of victims. He also highlighted national efforts, several human trafficking cases handled by the Royal Oman Police, and the communication channels available for reporting trafficking incidents.<\/a><\/p>\n

The ceremony was attended by members of the NCCHT, a number of Ambassadors to Oman and representatives of relevant entities.<\/p>\n
