{"id":21941,"date":"2025-02-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-03T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fm.gov.om\/21941\/"},"modified":"2026-05-05T05:48:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-05T05:48:08","slug":"oman-to-host-indian-ocean-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fm.gov.om\/en\/21941\/","title":{"rendered":"Oman to host Indian Ocean Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Foreign Ministry, is to host the <a href=\"https:\/\/indianocean.indiafoundation.in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">8th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC)<\/a>: &#8220;A Voyage Towards New Horizons of Maritime Partnership&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The two day conference begins on February 16 and aims to foster regional and international cooperation in maritime affairs.<\/p>\n<p><img data-opt-id=1650980352  fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-36735 size-fusion-600\" src=\"https:\/\/mlzlkxvcvliz.i.optimole.com\/cb:MsnX.251c\/w:auto\/h:auto\/q:mauto\/g:sm\/f:best\/https:\/\/www.fm.gov.om\/wp-content\/uploads\/moi460529041-e1697051297542-600x400-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2016, the IOC has become a leading international forum for enhancing cooperation among Indian Ocean states and global powers with strategic interests in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Countries such as Oman, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, and Singapore have played key roles in shaping its activities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fm.gov.om\/en\/ministry\/about-us\/key-figures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Albusaidi<\/a> said that hosting this conference reflects Oman&#8217;s commitment to enhancing maritime security, supporting sustainable maritime trade, and developing mechanisms of international cooperation to address shared regional challenges.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the conference serves as a strategic platform for exchanging views on the future of the blue economy and ocean governance.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister said Oman hopes that the IOC will produce constructive discussions which will benefit participating countries and contribute to regional stability and prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>Topics for consideration at the IOC include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>strengthening maritime partnerships<\/li>\n<li>enhancing trade connectivity<\/li>\n<li>supporting sustainable development<\/li>\n<li>addressing maritime security concerns<\/li>\n<li>ensuring freedom of navigation<\/li>\n<li>leveraging modern technology to improve port security and governance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As an annual international platform, the IOC aims to tackle challenges facing the Indian Ocean region and to bolster cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>The conference aligns with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.oman2040.om\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oman Vision 2040<\/a>\u00a0in several ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>promoting Oman&#8217;s economic interests with regional and global partners<\/li>\n<li>reinforcing the Sultanate\u2019s leadership in\u00a0sustaining Indian Ocean resources<\/li>\n<li>maximising Oman\u2019s potential in maritime transport, security, and economic competitiveness<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More than\u00a060 countries and international organisations\u00a0are expected to participate, highlighting the\u00a0strategic importance\u00a0of the region and the need for collaborative solutions to shared challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The Conference will also provide participants with opportunities for bilateral and multilateral meetings to explore new avenues for future cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about the Conference click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fm.gov.om\/indian-ocean-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is an unofficial English version of an Arabic report.
