Omani women have played a pivotal role on the international scene demonstrating over the years their ability to excel in various fields supported by strategic initiatives from the Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n

This support has extended beyond appointing women to positions of leadership. It has also included guidance and training to boost women’s participation in international organisations enabling them to lead global projects and initiatives effectively.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

A notable example is the election of Dr Amina bint Obaid Al Hajri (above) as Assistant Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO)<\/a>. This reflects the significant role of Omani women in advancing Islamic cultural and educational work and promoting cooperation among Islamic countries in education and culture.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the selection of Shanona bint Salem Al Habsiyah on UNICEF’s Executive Board<\/a> and Dr Thuwaiba Al Barwani (below) on the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC)<\/a> underscores Oman\u2019s commitment to promoting women’s role in protecting human rights and advocating for children’s and family issues globally.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The election of Dr Hamida bint Saloom Al Shakri<\/a> (above) to the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)<\/a> further highlights Oman’s international standing and the active role women play in empowerment and ensuring all types of protection and care.<\/p>\n

The involvement of member states in ensuring Omani representation in this significant Committee is a testament to their recognition of the Sultanate\u2019s leadership in this field.<\/p>\n

These vital roles underscore Oman’s influential position in shaping international policies and decisions that promote human rights.<\/p>\n

Oman’s Foreign Ministry actively supports Omani women\u2019s presence on international platforms, whether through collaboration with the Arab League<\/a>, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation<\/a> or the United Nations<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Ministry encourages qualified women to run for suitable leadership positions and works to provide opportunities that align with their competencies. This reflects Oman’s commitment to enhancing women’s role as key partners in sustainable development.<\/p>\n

With continued support, Oman aspires to be a leading model in empowering women both locally and internationally, reinforcing its standing as a nation advocating peace, prosperity and commitment to justice and equality.<\/p>\n

In recognition of the role of Omani women, the Sultanate celebrates Omani Women’s Day every year on 17 October, honouring their contributions and leadership in driving progress across social, economic, cultural, scientific and political fields, following the guidance of His late Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.<\/p>\n
