Oman\u2019s economy was traditionally based on fisheries, agriculture and trade before the discovery and development of its oil and gas reserves.<\/div>

Overlooking the Strait of Hormuz, the entrance to the Gulf, the source of two-thirds of the world\u2019s oil exports, Oman sits on key East-West trade routes, ensuring easy access to markets in the Middle East, India, South East Asia, Africa and Europe.<\/p>\n

While the country\u2019s oil revenues have contributed towards Oman\u2019s rapid economic growth, the government has actively pursued a development plan focused on diversification, industrialisation and privatisation of the economy with the aim of reducing the dependency on the oil industry\u2019s contribution to GDP.<\/p>\n\n\n

The launch of the Oman Vision 2040 marks an important new phase in the development journey of Oman.<\/p>\n

Oman Vision 2040<\/a> is the national reference for economic and social planning, and the source of national strategies and five-year development plans, taking into account the economic and social reality, objective foresight, and ability to keep pace with local, regional, and global changes.<\/p>\n

Oman has potential in many industries such as tourism, fisheries, logistics, mining, creative and technology services and manufacturing. The Omani government actively encourages foreign direct investment, and has used the proceeds from oil and gas to develop the country\u2019s infrastructure and human resources.<\/p>\n

The government has consciously fostered the country\u2019s growth while preserving its culture and heritage, developed the national economy on the principles of justice and the free market, and is investing heavily in growing the country\u2019s business base.<\/p>\n

Through significant investments in infrastructure and ensuring easy access to both domestic and international markets, Oman continues to attract new businesses operating in many sectors from green energy and logistics to tourism.<\/p>\n

The launch of the Eleventh Five-Year Development Plan (2026-2030)<\/a>, through Royal Decree 1\/2026, represents a key phase for advancing economic and social transformation, underpinned by policies founded on efficiency, sustainability, and competitiveness.<\/p>\n

Serving as a bridge from economic recovery to a phase of growth and expansion, the plan is supported by a clear vision and integrated legislative and regulatory frameworks, placing Oman on a promising trajectory toward a prosperous and sustainable economic future.<\/p>\n
